Asher Kine’s Viral ‘Clare’ Video Sparks Internet Investigation
Luxury shopping, a Cape Town trip, and a mysterious sales girl – but internet detectives believe the viral moment may not be as random as it seems.

That’s how it usually begins. Whenever those words drop, fans settle in for another episode of generosity from Asher Kine. Another wholesome moment. Another internet-warming surprise.
Or so they thought.
This time, however, the conversation online has taken a different turn.
Recent trends on X (formerly Twitter) have placed Kine under scrutiny – not for gifting a family a refrigerator or feeding workers – but for a viral video posted on Monday, March 9, captioned: “so I met this girl…”
The clip starts in familiar fashion.
“Wagwan geng!… Today I’m out in Ogun State to look for…”
But before he finishes his sentence, something catches his attention inside a restaurant.
There, he meets a young woman who introduces herself as Clare, a 21-year-old sales worker. After a brief exchange, Kine asks to save his number on her phone and tells her to text him immediately.
What follows feels almost like a real-life “main character moment.”
Kine takes Clare on a luxury shopping spree across several high-end stores, including Yves Saint Laurent, ZTTW, the Nike Store, and ZARA. The outing reportedly continues with a staycation before the pair travel to Cape Town to wrap up the experience.
During the trip, Clare enjoys several luxury activities—from getting a tattoo to taking a helicopter ride – moments that quickly spread across social media timelines and group chats.
But as the video gained traction, online users – often jokingly referred to as “Twitter FBI”, began doing what they do best: digging.
Several users claimed to have found Clare’s Instagram page, where previous posts appeared to show a lifestyle far removed from that of a typical retail worker. Photos suggesting familiarity with luxury environments and travel quickly fueled speculation that she might not have been the “random sales girl” portrayed in the video.
Others questioned how she appeared unfamiliar with Kine despite his popularity online, yet seemed comfortable traveling with him almost immediately. Some also raised eyebrows at how easily her mother allegedly allowed her to travel out of state; and eventually out of the country – with the creator.
Another detail fueling the conversation was the chemistry between the pair, which some viewers felt looked a little too natural to be completely spontaneous.
Still, some observers have offered a different explanation: the video may simply have been filmed earlier than viewers assumed.
Internet users pointed to a January post on Clare’s page showing what appeared to be a resignation letter, which some speculate could be from the same canteen job referenced in the video.
On March 10, at about 9:35 a.m., Kine addressed the speculation in a post defending the video’s authenticity.
He wrote:
“I may understand that a bunch of people cannot fathom a young adult living and working in Ogun State trying to make a way for themselves because she ‘looks too good’ for such a job. This person has a sister living in Lagos; it’s a 2-hour drive, and she’s 21.”
Kine also reflected on his own journey, explaining how he began filming entertainers while chasing opportunities in the industry. He added that the video was not a 48-hour experience but unfolded over the course of about a week.
Still, the internet wasn’t done talking.
One self-appointed “Twitter FBI agent” even visited the restaurant where the first meeting allegedly happened. In a video posted online, he claimed Clare was not a worker there.
Other users circulated screenshots suggesting Kine had commented on Clare’s Instagram posts 11 and 16 weeks earlier, implying the two may have known each other before the video.
Another user quickly dismissed the claim:
“These screenshots are obviously edited because how can you comment under another person’s post as ‘author’?”
The exchange highlights just how far Nigerian X users can go when investigating a trending topic.
Some commenters even referenced a viral line by Burna Boy:
“You go explain tire, no evidence.”
Others (particularly male commenters) responded with humour.
User Nos Fring wrote:
“Look at all the men you mentioned: Asake, YL, Olamide… would you have become what you are today if it was fufu they gave you instead of opportunity?”
Another commenter, AYO, joked:

Clearly, some people are more entertained than upset.
In the end, the situation highlights something familiar about internet culture: social media trends are not controlled by influencers alone. Sometimes, they’re driven by ordinary users with curiosity, screenshots, and a lot of free time.
Whether the video was a clever strategy, a coincidence, or simply content doing what content does- going viral – remains up for debate.
But one thing is certain – Asher Kine once again has the internet talking.
And if Clare is asked, she might just say the experience was worth the ride.
