Beyond Making Money: Young Entrepreneurs Confront Wealth, Risk and Investment in Jos
JOS, Plateau State — What happens when young entrepreneurs stop asking only how to make money and begin asking what to do with the money they have?
That question formed the heart of Financial Conversations with the Rich Young Ruler 2026, a financial education programme held in Jos, bringing together young entrepreneurs and professionals for conversations around wealth creation, investing, risk and financial decision-making.
Hosted by finance coach and forex expert Paul Hirekaan, the programme challenged participants to move beyond financial theory and take practical steps towards their financial goals.
For many attendees, the impact went beyond the sessions.
Dabin Nyinrotmkwa described the experience as transformative, saying, “My mind has experienced a shift and I have been set on a new trajectory.”
Another participant, Unity Keston, said the programme was “impactful and eye-opening,” adding that he would return to the drawing board, drop pride and fear, and begin again.
The conversations explored investment options, financial knowledge, risk-taking and the importance of choosing the right financial vehicles.
Christine Ishanpepe reminded participants that young people are in their “accumulation stage” and do not necessarily need substantial resources to begin building wealth.
King SaAoundo emphasised the role of knowledge, urging participants to “take informed risks” while describing losses as part of the learning process.
Paul Hirekaan, meanwhile, challenged attendees to pay the price for exposure, knowledge, competence and evidence.
“Saving keeps your money while investing grows it,” he said.
The programme also inspired participants to identify specific actions. Muhammad Abubakar said he intended to invest in digital assets, while Nenrit Yashua identified building stronger evidence around his businesses as a key next step.
For Ams Temidire, one of the biggest lessons was the realisation that being young provides time to build.
“Because I am still young, there’s still time,” he said.
The event is expected to continue beyond the one-day programme through a mentorship initiative, with participants working towards the Jos Finance Conference in November, where certification will form part of the larger journey.
Ultimately, Financial Conversations with the Rich Young Ruler 2026 sought to leave participants with more than information: better questions, clearer financial direction and the confidence to take their first step.
